Photographed here from St John’s churchyard in 1968 is the rear of the irregular shaped Church Hall, always known locally as the “Monkey Hut”?, in Station Road. Throughout the life of the hall it would serve various purposes, i.e. Sunday schools, Town Library, Brownies, Jumble Sales, Wedding Receptions, Dances, Whist Drives, etc. The hall was demolished in 1981 and the land was used as the entrance into the housing development of Warwick Court.                                                                                                                      Image © Simon Newman
