Billy Dovey at the Alresford Cycle Shop on the corner of Station Road. 1938.

Billy Dovey was the ‘Keep Fit Girl” who in 1938 on an extended tour of the country cycled 30,000 miles in the year. While she was sponsored by Hercules Cycles, Hovis and others, most of her cycling exploits were on her own initiative. In each town she would call at local cycle shops, ride with cycling clubs, etc. and was reported on by local and national press. She later married George Flemming who was one of the country’s top racing cyclists at the time.
