Alresford Preparatory School (APS), 1968.

The two ladies photographed here in 1968, sitting with their pupils in front of Alresford Preparatory School are Miss Daisy Curtis (light blue top) and Miss Dorothy Curtis (dark blue top).  The old building, just inside Bay Tree Yard, off West Street, which was used as the school house is known to have existed as a school in the 1890’s under a Miss Stevens. Dorothy Curtis ran the school for over 35 years. Educated at Perin’s Grammar School, she later became a pupil teacher at the Dean School, before taking over APS around 1929. Her sister Daisy helped at the school from the late 1930’s. The school ran until 1968 and upon its closure was converted to a private residence.

6 Karen Hebberd, 7 Helen Curtis?, 8 Bill Warburton, 9 Jeffrey Flood, 10 Francis Brown, 11 (Possibly) Heather Bailey, 12 Fenella McCutcheon, 13 Tim Dawes, 14 Unknown.
