Army officers leaving the Swan Hotel in West Street. They were probably driving out to observe one of the military manoeuvres held in the surrounding countryside before the Great War. This may well be the occasion, in 1908, when General Sir H Smith-Dorian had his headquarters at Alresford and when, according to the Hampshire Chronicle, the eyes of the military world were on Hampshire.
